Wastlbauer Bio-Erlebnishof is an organic farm in the Salzburg Lake District dedicated to regenerative agriculture, community, and hands-on farm experiences. The farm combines animal husbandry, a 2.000 m² market garden, an orchard, flowers, berries, and a forest, complemented by a seasonal farm tavern and a charming farm shop.
Family-owned since 1786, the Wastlbauerhof blends tradition with innovation, offering modern country-style accommodation, professional seminar rooms, and inspiring workshop spaces between river and forest.
If you’re drawn to learning, farming, slowing down, or contributing to a more sustainable future, you are welcome here. Check out the opportunities of the Farm School, join to volunteer on a Thursday or check out our vacancies below. If you have more questions, you can always send an email to eva.filzmoser@wastlbauer.at

The farm is led by Eva Filzmoser, the 8th generation of her family. She lives on the farm with her two sons, Elliot and Robin, her parents Romana and Franz, and a small, ever-changing group of residents who form the wider farm family community. Eva’s international background in climate advocacy, permaculture, and leadership shapes the holistic, hands-on spirit of the farm.
A lawyer, activist, and workshop facilitator by background, she brings a holistic vision shaped by her international work, including founding the climate NGO Carbon Market Watch. After shifting to farming in 2018, she trained in traditional Austrian agriculture, Holzer-style permaculture at the Krameterhof, and forest gardening at Ferme du Bec Hellouin. She has been part of the Market Gardener Institute Community since 2020 and launched the Wastlbauer Farm School as part of the MGI Farm School Program in 2025. Fluent in four languages, Eva is also a musician, traveler, and devoted caretaker of her two sons, her community, and the farm’s animals.

Behind the Wastlbauer stands a dedicated team who nurture the vegetables, care for the animals, steward the meadows, keep the outdoor spaces beautiful, and ensure our rooms and apartments are ready to welcome every guest.

Our Philosophy: Experience. Harvest. Enable.
Farming, to us, is more than production. It’s connection — to nature, to each other, and to a future worth shaping.
Experience
We invite guests, families, and people of all ages to become part of daily farm life: feeding animals, collecting eggs, walking forest paths, baking bread, or simply enjoying the rhythm of the land.
Harvest
Through permaculture, we work with natural cycles rather than against them. Our orchards, forest edges, raised beds, and meadows are designed to regenerate soil, conserve water, and increase biodiversity. We harvest what the land gives — and offer it directly through on-farm direct sales: fresh eggs, seasonal fruits and vegetables, herbs, and our farm products.
Enable
We believe learning grows when shared.
Through workshops, internships, guided farm experiences, and collaborations, we open our knowledge to those seeking new ways to farm, garden, teach, or simply live closer to nature.

Our farm is an ideal starting point for many trips. There are a large number of touristic destinations within an hour's drive by car or bus. There is a bus stop in front of the farm gate, from where buses run every hour to the nearest villages and to Salzburg.
The Wastlbauerhof is located in the beautiful Salzburg Lake District, in midst of the 3 lakes Mattsee, Obertrumersee and Grabensee, which can be reached in a few minutes on foot or by bicycle. All lakes have public beaches.
In addition, there are many other lakes in the area. These include the Irrsee, the Wallersee, the Mondsee, the Wolfgangsee, the Traunsee and the Attersee.
In a few minutes’ drive there are the idyllic villages Mattsee, Seeham and Obertrum, which have tourist attractions. For example, Seeham is known as organic village in the Salzburg Lake District and offers not only adventures in its “herbal world” but also in the climbing park. In the village Mattsee there is one of the oldest settlements of the Bavarians and also the Ferdinand Porsche adventure world “fahr(T)raum”.
This region is proud of the sustainability of fresh produce, such as fish from the lakes as well as the best free-range eggs in Austria, which are produced here on the farm. For beer fans there are visits to the Trumer private brewery, beer tastings and even draft beer from the unique beer fountain. In addition, culturally-minded guests get their taste, with the many music concerts in the nearby places. The long list of leisure activities in the Salzburg Lake District is best read on the website of the tourist office.
Also the Salzkammergut with the famous places St. Gilgen and Mondsee with many other attractions is not far away. In the picturesque St. Gilgen there is the all-weather amusement park, a cable car to the mountain “Zwölferhörndl” and of course the Wolfgangsee. In the direction of Upper Austria there is the open-air museum in Neukirchen and the chocolate manufactory Frucht & Sinne in Frankenmarkt. There is also the new KTM Motohall in Mattighofen.

In the lake district it goes without saying that bathing is in the summer months on the program. The lakes often heat up to 25 degrees. On windy days there are many opportunities for water sports such as sailing, (pedal) boating, wind and kite surfing. In addition, forests and paths invite you to go hiking and walking. You often meet deer, rabbits, pheasants and many species of birds. There are also several horse stables in the area. For cyclists, the area is ideal. Sports equipment can be rented in the surrounding villages.
An hourly bus service from the bus stop in front of the farm offers trips directly into the center of Salzburg allows an uncomplicated exploration of the area.
The Salzkammergut is a traditional place in Austria. All year round are traditional events, processions and regional town festivals. As a guest in our region, you are always invited to festivities such as Maypole Setup or Perchtenläufe.
Even in winter it is not boring with us. Above all, the many Christmas markets in the area with their many Standerln and colorful lights worth a visit. On the big ski slopes in Werfenweng or the Salzburg Amade-Skiwelt you are in about 1 hour but also around there are activities in the snow. In the frozen Lettengrube we can try the arts on two runners in the forest and slide skates over the ice. The lakes can also completely freeze and then offer an unforgettable skating experience.
